I put those two items on the Intro page under "Nothing to do with being Governor". The realities are that the Governor of Texas has no power to change either one of those issues in either direction. In Campaigns we get sidetracked by issues which really never come into play during a term of service.
Having said that, I am for everyone having the same rights as anyone else, but not for offending people unnecessarily.
The fight over "Same Sex Marriage" started back in the eighties and Nineties as a struggle to get rights under the Tax Law Laws and Insurance Coverage for Homosexual couples equal to that of Heterosexual couples. When the regress was not addressed, the groups in support of equality decided to use a backdoor, "If they will only give these Tax exemptions and Ins Coverage to "Married Couples", let's get married", and so the fight began.
There would never had been an issue if the Homosexual couples had been treated like the Citizens they are. They should have had the Tax and Ins. options that Hetero couples had. Now the fight has become something that it never was meant to be, the fight over a word.
In this Politically correct Society, you cannot use the word "Faggot" to refer to a Homosexual because it offends them, yet it offends the majority of Americans when Homosexual couples want to use the word "Marriage" instead of an equally suitable word for "Domestic Coupling". My view is equality for all, if the Hetero portion of society can't use a word because it is considered offensive, then the Homosexual portion cannot use a word for the EXACT same reason.
So the answer to this question is:
1) I fully support the right of individuals to seek a long-term monogamous relationship with another Human Being, regardless of sex
2) I fully support the equal rights and privileges inherent in certain acts by the populace
3) I do not support the use of the word "Marriage" for Same-Sex Couples |
