They say, that going green would be too expensive. But changing everything over to "Green" technology would create a market, jobs, and lower Health Care cost by reducing illness and disease. And not just for today, it would be a legacy that we would be leaving to our children's, children's, children.
I say, that the people that are against going green are too invested in dirty technologies, or just too lazy to do the work involved. Maybe it stresses out their brain to think of all the little details. Maybe it is too big a concept for them to get their heads around and they don't know where to start. Maybe they are just suicidal and want the world to end, or at least diminish what we have. I don't know what they want from life, but I want to be able to drink from a stream, eat things without having to wash off toxins first, and have life on this planet that doesn't contain some man-made chemical that no one knows what its effect will be.
I want a world where incidents like DDT don't happen anymore. Where no one dies from cancer caused by the things we use for our convienence. A world without oil and chemical spills and without smokestacks spewing death. Without rivers that catch fire or lakes and bays that are unsafe to swim in because of man's abuse or misuse. A world that when we walk through it we don't leave a path of destruction behind us. I don't want a miracle, just a little common sense.
To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson: Businessmen don't have any love or respect for the world or people around them, their only loyalty is to their income stream. It seems that even the most selfish person should realize that no matter how much money and power you acrue, it is worthless if it ultimately winds up killing you.
